Beginning in April, Ocean City's new demand-based parking system will take effect. The new system will work as follows:
October, April & May (before Memorial Day weekend)
- Monday-Thursday: Parking will be free at both the Ocean City Inlet, all other municipal parking lots and on-street parking
- Friday-Sunday: Rates will be $3 an hour at the Ocean City Inlet Parking Lot and at $2 an hour other municipal parking lots and at on-street parking
Friday of Memorial Day weekend through Oct. 1
- At the Ocean City Inlet rates will be $3.50 an hour and $3 an hour at all other municipal parking lots and on-street parking
If an individual, who parks at a municipal lot, pays their parking fine within an hour of it being issued, the $50 fine will be voided, according to the town's parking resolution.
At the Inlet, if an individual doesn't pay for their parking, the town will bill them using their license plate for the time they parked plus a $25 fee. If that bill isn't paid within 30 days the town raises the fine to $50, according to the resolution. All that can be avoided if the violator pays for the time they parked up to an hour after they left the Inlet.
If you haven’t been to OC lately, there are no more booths with people in them where you pay your parking. It is all electronic now, and you need to know your license plate. It’s simple once you have done it, but can be confusing the first time for some. There is an information booth with someone to help with problems (most of the time).

“...ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, and not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science." Charles Darwin, 1871
