Hi everyone,
First of all a huge thanks go to Kathy Calvert and Mike Welch for this amazing find!! Jo Anna, Wren and I arrived after the bird had gone missing for a little while, after searching for a bit with Tom Feild, J.B Churchill, and others on the scene, we relocated it around the house east of the pond. Shortly after everyone gathered to see it, a Merlin zipped in setting the kingbird off into a bout of vocalizations, it mostly gave "pip" notes but also gave a full "kip reeeer". Tom and I both agreed it sounded good for Couch's, unfortunately I had left my phone on the car and no other recorders were on at the time. Tom and I spent the next hour following it trying to obtain recordings; we were successful in grabbing a couple of diagnostic "pip" notes after the bird started calling in response to being chased by a Northern Mockingbird and American Kestrel. Recordings and spectrograms can be seen/heard here-
