Geese must have forecast the weather

This morning, we have had at least 1000 Canada Geese arrive at our
little cove, and they are still coming in flocks. We had not seen this
level of migration until now, so far this year.
It seems like they have somehow sensed the forecast extreme cold and
snow/ice forecast and are acting early to avoid the worst of it.
I wonder what they know that our meteorologists would like to know.
