Hi Everyone,
Happy Friday! I'm excited to announce another great new feature, this one courtesy of MBP developer Emma Neary. Imagine you photographed an oak tree and are wondering if its White Oak or Swamp White Oak. You look at photos and then visit the oak checklist at MBP and see the 22 species recorded:
You were in Garrett County. You also browse to the county record page:
Now on both pages you can click the new "Records" column to sort by the taxa with the most or fewest records. You can see at a glance that White Oak has 612 records while Swamp White Oak has just 34 records. You can also see we have records for White Oak in all counties, but no records for Swamp White Oak west of Montgomery.
Super useful!
Maybe you photographed a grass-veneer moth and are wondering which species are the most common. Or you've photographed LOTS of grass-veneer moths and you're wondering what the least reported species are, the most exciting to try to find!
At a glance you can see Double-banded has nearly 8x more records than the next most reported. You can see the one species with just a single record.
Most recorded and least reported sunfish?
Most recorded and least reported butterflies?
This is a really great addition to the project. Excellent work, Emma!
Special thanks to Jane Hill for the idea. Keep all the great ideas coming!
