Hi Everyone,
While 2021 was another challenging year, the MBP team managed to make it one of our most productive yet. It was the year we took our first bold steps into targeted data collection, working actively to address gaps in the state’s biodiversity data. We worked with sponsors such as the Maryland Ornithological Society (MOS) to kick off the Turkey Point Bird Count. We conducted targeted summer insect surveys in promising areas with limited data. We expanded the development team and made major leaps forward on the MBP website. We grew the MBP board to add insights and expertise that will help us fulfill our mission. We collected a ton of data.
We worked to be as productive as possible while staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. We postponed certain events such as BioBlitzes and field trips where social distancing wouldn’t be as safe as we’d like. We hope to ramp up field trips and other outreach activities in the new year.
Here are the 2021 MBP Highlights. We’re excited to build on this year’s successes to make 2022 our best year yet. We have big plans for our 10-year anniversary year!

Today is the last day of 2021 for a tax-deductible donation to MBP. If you’re in a position to make an end-of-year donation, we will put it to good use to document and conserve Maryland’s biodiversity. Just click donate from nearly any MBP page (https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/).
Thanks, everyone, and Happy New Year!
