We may be a bit late, but we have one more set of trees that we
traditionally harvest. They are a row of about 20 American chestnut
trees located behind a commercial building in Hagerstown. In past years we have sent thousands of nuts from this and other pure American plantings to
an organization that uses the nuts to help restore Appalachian coal fields.
The pickers may also take the nuts for their personal use.
I'll bring some picking poles and you are encouraged to bring any suitable poles and ladders. Our suitable chapter ladders are at Black Hill and Monocacy if someone wanted to bring one.
This row of trees is located at 925Sweeney Drive in Hagerstown. From Rt 70,
go north on Rt 65, then take a left on Wilson Blvd and Sherman Ave to a final right on Sweeney. You are there.
Bring leather gloves.
