Is there a limit to the number of different tissues that can be stored in the cfg.vol array?

Dear Dr. Fang,

I've been using MCXLAB recently and encountered a problem. In MCXLAB, there are two arrays in the 'cfg' structure: the 'cfg.vol' array is used to store the structural information of different tissues, and the 'cfg.prop' array is used to store the optical properties of the corresponding tissues in the 'cfg.vol' array. During my attempts, I found that the maximum number of different tissues that can be stored in the 'cfg.vol' array is around 64×64. Is there a limit to the number of different tissues that can be stored in the 'cfg.vol' array? Or is it a problem with my hardware, I tried it on both 2080TI and 4090 graphics cards, and the result is the same.
Could you please help me with this question? Thank you!

hi cl,

if you use label based tissues, the maximum number is 4000 - #srcpos - #detpos, but you can use continually varying medium format to get around this limit, see my previous reply regarding a similar question before
