Hi everyone,
Are next meeting is right around the corner, with a lot of fun and
exciting things planned. The meeting will take place on Friday,
October 28th, at 2:15pm in room S.1700 in the Science building.
The meeting will have a Halloween theme, so everyone is encouraged to
bring candy and goodies to share.
• JR will talk about our most recent trip at the Nobel Conference,
going over
all the exciting presentations that took place.
• Then we'll go over the clubs next field trip which is going to
be at Mayo,
down in Rochester, MN on November 11th. We will be touring Dr.
Ekkers
zebrafish genetics lab, followed by a sit down to learn about
how these
little vertebrates make an ideal model organism for cancer
research.
• Next we'll talk about the two new research projects that the
science club is
funding and how there progressing.
We'll then end our meeting with a bang! The Chem Demons will be
joining us to demonstrate the "Gummy Bear experiment", showing us what
happens to a gummy bear when you drop it into hot potassium
chlorate!! It's tons of fun to watch. We'll go over the science
behind how this spectacular display happens, while eating gummy
bears!!
We'll also have a suggestion form that we'll be handing around to
everyone, to give members an opportunity to let us know what they
would like to see in the Science club, moving forward into next
semester.
Hope to see everyone at the meeting,
James Lawton II
