Greetings from the Science Club!

Below is the information regarding the Minnesota Zoo “behind the
scenes” field trip.

NOTE: "Please make sure you sign the required off campus activity
form before you attend." Find James if you have not signed the form!
I will be at school all day Thursday and Friday.


The trip is Monday, May 16, 2011. We will meet at MCTC at 8am (yep,
bright and early guys) right outside the Main building on the side
street facing the science building. For anyone with a car, who can
help out by providing a ride, please post in this forum if your able
and how many can ride with, so we can make sure there are enough rides
for everyone going on the trip. From there we will drive to the
Minnesota zoo were we will make our way to the Tropics trail and begin
the tour at 9:30am (we need to show up 10-15 minutes early). The tour
will be approximately one hour and thirty minutes long.

While walking the trail your naturalist will discuss many topics
including animal management, vet care, natural history, conservation
efforts and careers in zoos. There will be many opportunities for the
participants to ask questions as well. During the tour the group will
go behind the scenes and it is here that all tour participants, young
and old alike, need to be on their best behavior. Here we’ll enter the
staff work area and the homes of the animals. Time will be spent with
a keeper and you will look into a holding area, where the animals go
in at night. We will also discuss the animal’s daily diets in the
trail kitchen.

After the tour we will have some time to explore the zoo, see the
shark show, grab a bite to eat, before we need meet up in front of the
IMAX movie theater at noon to see “Born to be Wild” in 3D. The movie
will last about 45 minutes long. After it’s done we’ll then have the
option to see more of the zoo exhibits or head back to MCTC.

Hi again,

First I hope everyone's doing well during this time of chaos, as it's
not that much further before it's all over with and then . . . relax
with a deep sense of accomplishment. I want to thank everyone who
