Hi all,
Pack up time is coming close and we need to head home in a couple of weeks. All of us have amassed quite a large amount of assets (books, clothes, etc) during the two years of our stay here which shall soon look like liabilities when we shall start packing up. This thought shall force us to throw away many of our things in the dustbin. Now you know what they say about garbage, right? It's some thing that you preserve for years and dump in the dustbin days before you desperately need it again.
I don't know when I'll be needing these books again but I have a feeling that I'll do at some point of time in my life. Hence I've decided to carry all my books and notes to home. Now comes the daunting task of carrying such a heavy load of books along with an even heavier load of clothes, a laptop bag, etc. etc. Man! the very thought of it!
Anyway, to cut a long story short I've decided to avail the services of GATI courier that shall help me carry the majority of my luggage. I intend to carry only my laptop bag with me in the train.
I contacted their office in Begumpet and spoke with Mr. B N Chakravarthi, the person in charge of accepting orders. Following is the information that I could gather from him :-
Freight charge per kg - Rs. 14
Students' discount - 30%
Diesel surcharge - 30%
Refund on extra
assets declared - 0.3% or Rs 175 whichever is larger
Docket charges - Rs. 200 per docket (a.k.a. carton)
Service charges - 10.3%
The problem here is that our campus is not within the service area of GATI couriers and hence they won't pick up our stuffs from here under normal conditions. However, if a lot of us want to send our stuffs
they'll send their truck to pick our stuffs as one big lot.
These are the terms that Mr. Chakravarthi have stated to me.
Please revert to this mail, stating the weight of the luggage that you would like to be couriered, approximate value of the things and destination (city) ASAP because I have to inform him by tomorrow afternoon (12 pm) as to how many people want this service.
Following are the contact details of Mr Chakravarthi. I assume you would have many questions regarding them which you would want to ask him directly.

Please revert if you have any queries or concerns. I had availed of GATI's services when I had to pack up from my engineering college in Bangalore and go back to Kolkata. I had couriered my books, desktop and other belongings and they did a good job. That is why I am planning to avail of their services again. If any of you have a better option in mind, please share the same with me.
