As you may be aware, in October, 2018, Governor Carney signed Executive Order 24 outlining expectations for state agencies to adopt a trauma informed framework (link to the order: https://governor.delaware.gov/executive-orders/eo24/). In the order, the Family Services Cabinet Council was tasked with promoting a trauma awareness month and creating a program to recognize champions of trauma informed care. We are excited to share an update with our TMD community about the Council's plans:
- May 2019 is being designated as Delaware’s inaugural Trauma Awareness Month (TAM). We are encouraging all organizations and other partners to sponsor some kind of event (or publication or process...) in honor of this important landmark. A calendar has been posted on the Governor’s web page to give individuals, agencies and communities a prominent public space to share and publicize their events. Please click here to access the TAM Submission Form<https://governor.delaware.gov/family-services-cabinet-council/trauma-awareness-month/ to highlight your event(s).
-A Governor's Proclamation of Trauma Awareness Month is planned for May 1st.
- May will also be an opportunity to recognize Delaware’s own champions of trauma-informed approaches. Please consider nominating your organization, your colleagues, or those in the community whose work you admire for the Compassionate Champion Award! It’s simple! The Nomination form is found here:<https://governor.delaware.gov/family-services-cabinet-council/compassionate-champion-award/>
We encourage you to share this email broadly with your networks to help make Trauma Awareness Month and the Compassionate Champion Award a success. We will be sending updates on details for May as we receive them.
