Writing with Wuopio

Does your child’s writing need clarity and focus?  If yes, sign up for 1 or more of the 3 sessions described below.  

Your child will learn more about the writing process with little to no pain.  I promise!

When? There will be three sessions this summer.  Each session will focus on different writing genres.

         Session 1:  June 13^th - June 17^th (M-F):  1:00-4:00

(Directions, informative, research)

            Session 2:  June 27^th –July 1^st (M-F):  9:00-12:00 

(Compare and contrast, persuasive, fact/opinion)

            Session 3:  August 1^st – August 5^th (M-F) 9:00-12:00

(Biography, interpretations, reference)

 

Where? McNear Elementary, Room 1

 

Who?  CURRENT 4^th, 5^th and 6^th graders.  Target size is for each session is 6-8 students. 

What?  Each day will be divided into 3 parts. 

Part 1:  Sentences (construction, transitions, simple, complex, compound, paraphrasing, variation.) 

Part 2:  Paragraphs (curriculum will depend on the session’s focus:  informative, research, compare/contrast, persuasive, fact/opinion, biography, interpretative, reference) 

Part 3:  Editing and revising (rubrics, outlines, graphic organizers, examples, reference material)

Other:  I will be developing some of the topics/prompts around student interest so there will be a questionnaire going home before each session.  All writing will happen in class….no homework!  Each student will receive a “handbook” to keep that they have used during the week.  The book will include examples, charts and lists.  The cost for each week will be $150.00.  Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment requirement are subject to cancellation.  Please contact Katherine Wuopio with any questions you may have:  578-4929 or 888-5531, kwu...@pet.k12.ca.us
