Mechanics of Writing with Jeanie Heaslet

Date: June 6-10, 2011 

Time: 9-11:30 am

Location: room # 13 @ McNear

Cost: $ 100 per child / 10 children max

Who can sign up?  CURRENT 4^th – 6^th grade students

Jeanie Heaslet will be teaching a class for current 4^th – 6^th graders that need to brush up on mechanics in Language Arts.  

The class will focus on the following:

Mechanics of writing:

• Punctuation, grammar and usage
• Sentence diagramming
• Run-on, compound and fragment sentences
• Parts of speech and how they work (together)
• Journaling: why and how
• Brainstorming: layouts and organization

 There will be specific writing lessons concentrating on:

• Expository writings / Transitional words and phrases
• Introductions / Middles / Endinng
