Frisco Friday in India Basin on May 31

Come out for Frisco Fridays, a series of events centered around a small business marketplace and family friendly activities. Hosted by Made in the City, Family Equity Partners, and the India Basin Waterfront Park project partners, these free events feature fun-filled evenings of music, food, games, children's activities, community vibes, and plenty of green space to enjoy. Whether you're a Frisco native, a newcomer, or just visiting the city, this event is the perfect way to kick off the weekend.

The next takes place on Friday, May 31 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the PG&E Hunters Point SF site (155 Jennings Street) next to Heron's Head Park. This Frisco Friday will feature the Chopped 415 soul-food cook off hosted by Remy’s Creations!

Want to get the vibe around Frisco Fridays? Check out the recap video of last month's event at this link.

This series is a partnership made possible through the India Basin Waterfront Park Equitable Development Plan (EDP). Outlined in the plan are the strategies to use the physical spaces and park programming to build community cohesion and social capital and to support Bayview-Hunters Point commercial corridors beyond the park. Monumental Reckoning Ceremony in Golden Gate Park on June 19

In honor of Juneteenth, we are hosting a special Monumental Reckoning ceremony and event on Wednesday, June 19 from 1 to 2 p.m. It will take place at the site of the former statue of Francis Scott Key in the Golden Gate Park Music Concourse where the Monumental Reckoning art figures stood from 2021 to 2024. The art figures represented the first Africans stolen from their homeland and sold into chattel slavery in 1619. The 350 "Ancestors" encircled the vacant plinth of the slaveholder Francis Scott Key.

This year, the organizers are looking for volunteers to be one of the 350+ Black women who will surround the empty plinth area for the event. All Black women are welcome, including trans women, as well as non-binary and gender fluid people. The time commitment for this volunteer role is from noon to 2 p.m. that day.

Additionally, all allies are welcome to experience and witness this historic event. For more information and to volunteer, click the link below.

Lake Merced Trail Improvement Project Pathway Closure

We've started working on the northern part of the Lake Merced Trail Improvement Project. To accommodate construction, the trail along Skyline Boulevard is closed through late June. Pedestrians should follow the detour through Harding Park Golf Course, pictured in the map above. This detour is available from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This project includes reconstructing the asphalt pathway from Harding Park Road to the Sunset Circle parking lot to make it ADA compliant. The lot itself will receive six new ADA parking spaces. Additionally, the natural surface pathway will be repaved with softer soil that is more comfortable for runners and walkers. Existing fitness stations along this same stretch will be replaced with new adult exercise equipment.

"SF_retake" at the Harvey Milk Photo Center Through June 8

Swing by the Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott Street) to check out its SF_retake exhibit, which is on display through Saturday, June 8.

In 2004, a small creative team invited 20 established photographers from the art and editorial world, as well as a handful of newly emerging photographers, to document that post-internet megaboom-to-bust moment in time.

In 2024, the change is evident in this new collection of photos. Fear of earthquakes has given way to fear of fiery air. Skepticism around powerful tech ownership has turned into skepticism around personal data ownership. Swing by to see this photo retake of San Francisco 20 years later. Padel in the Park Video Wrap Up

Park Padel's one-year pop-up courts at Embarcadero Plaza hosted its Padel in the Park tournament and celebration earlier this month. With the iconic back drop of the Ferry Building and Vaillancourt Fountain, there were Padel exhibition matches, free clinics and a tournament, as well as a DJ, food trucks, a beer garden and more. Our Video of the Week comes from Park Padel and shows what this day was all about.

Frequently described as a cross between tennis and squash, it's one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Padel was invented in Acapulco in 1969 and its popularity skyrocketed during the pandemic alongside pickleball, as people turned to socially distanced activities. For more information about Park Padel, and how to play at the courts, click the link below.
