Hello McLaren Park Collaborative,
I’m Jean Long, Multimodal Planning Manager at SFMTA. You may have worked with my former colleague Chris Kidd on the Visitacion Valley/Portola Community Based Transportation Plan.
To build upon the recommendations from the Plan, SFMTA is applying for a federal grant application to do deeper community engagement for a Mansell Streetscape Project. SFMTA is requesting $2 million in funding from the USDOT Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program (ATIIP) to complete outreach, develop a plan, and to start some preliminary engineering to improve the connection between San Bruno Ave to McLaren Park.
The Mansell Streetscape Planning and Design project will finalize plans to improve the active transportation network along Mansell Street and provide substantial opportunities for walking, bicycling, and access to public transit in the Visitacion Valley and Portola neighborhoods. Plans will include a new pedestrian path and an improved bike facility linked to San Francisco’s McLaren Park Mansell Promenade. Plans will also include potential transit bulbs, stop relocations, and shortening of pedestrian crossing distances to help improve transit service for the 29 Sunset and 56 Rutland Muni bus lines on Mansell Street.
If this effort is something that the McLaren Park Collaborative would be interested in supporting, we’d appreciate it! Attached is a draft project summary (it’s a work in progress) for additional context. Support letters improve our chances of securing the grant. I’d be happy to share a template letter with you to review and edit before sign-off. We’re looking to have final signatures by June 3, 2024, so we have a few days before they’re due. Thanks! Please feel free to reach out if you have further questions.
Sincerely,
Jean
