#1 ---upcoming park workday-- Saturday, February 7th  9:30am

February 7, 2026 is the first Saturday of the month and is the date for our next Volunteer Workday in John McLaren Park. We meet in the main parking lot for the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater (21 John F. Shelley Drive). Work is from 9:30 AM until noon. Tools and gloves, water and snacks (from Arizmendi Bakery) are provided by SF Rec and Park. This month we return to the area of the new trails on University Hill. We will continue to weed invasive Blackberry and other species. This is in preparation for the contractor planting the area. This area is just across John F. Shelley Dr. from the parking lot, so I might not mark a flour and chalk trail to it. We will be near the part of the Philosopher's Way Trail that features Pete's Rock. It is a permanent spring that falls onto Pete's Rock. The rock was donated by Peter Richards Jr. who co-designed the Philosopher's Way. This is not hasher Peter Richards Jr. who has his own connection to McLaren Park. Hasher Pete Richards Jr. was part of the design/build team for the Art Car that won for most kid friendly award the last time that McLaren Park held the Art Car Races. Back to the workday.

Dress in layers, long sleeves and pants are recommended for the war with the Blackberry. The extended forecast doesn't include 2-7 yet, but we seem to be in an extended dry period. I will post updates as we get closer. SFH3 will provide more snacks and BEER. We can also provide rides to the worksite fro the Glen Park BART Station. Come out and see what's growing in McLaren Park, especially if you missed the Eagle Trail on the MLK Day hash.
