June 14, 2024 McLaren Trails – Tree work continues south of Grey Fox CreekGreetings, neighbors! We wanted to share our progress on the McLaren Trails Priority Improvements Project since our last update in April. A few weeks ago, we completed the planned tree work north and south of Jerry Garcia Amphitheater. This work is the first phase of project-related habitat restoration to support ecological health in the area surrounding Grey Fox Creek. The tree pruning and tree removal will allow more sunlight to reach this precious riparian zone, which will benefit the myriad native plants that have been planted in this zone over the last 25 years of active habitat restoration, as well as the hundreds of local native plants we will be planting in this area during the next phase of work. Temporary fencing curves south around the amphitheater, and barriers run on the south side of the creek to protect this sensitive habitat. Please do not enter this area. We began work in advance of bird nesting and our contractor conducted regular bird nesting surveys throughout the course of work. We prioritized this area so that the amphitheater would be ready to host the slate of high school graduations that kicked off the events season last week, and so our trails contractor would be able to start work on the highly eroded access road as soon as possible after final events this fall. Our tree work contractor has now moved on to an area a little further south, south of Grey Fox Creek (see map below). Please be advised – Expect pedestrian detours around the Grey Fox Creek project area. The contractor will move through several sub-work areas within this larger zone. Detours will occur during construction hours: Monday–Friday, 7-3:30, now through early July. During work hours, pedestrians are routed to the northwest corner of the main amphitheater parking lot and along the paved path to the amphitheater, from where they can connect with the existing trail network as shown below. Outside of construction hours (in the late afternoons and on the weekends), a pedestrian path will reopen through the work area as shown. For your own safety, please stay on established paths and follow all posted signs. We are working closely with our permitting team so that tree work will not interfere with events hosted at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater. View it on website |
