SF Invites Residents to Dream Big with $6 Million for Community Park Projects

Dreaming of a more accessible trail, improved dog park amenities, or a new community garden at your local park? Residents now have a chance to turn those ideas into reality. Nominations are open for Rec and Park’s Community Opportunity Fund (COF), a program that supports community-driven park improvement projects across the city.

Through the program, residents can propose capital improvement projects that reflect what their neighborhoods want and need most. This funding round is supported by $6 million from the 2020 Health and Recovery Bond, reopening a program that has not offered a citywide application round in nearly a decade.

This year’s Community Opportunity Fund application process has been refreshed to be more streamlined and transparent, with a clear focus on parks in Environmental Justice Communities to help ensure investments reach neighborhoods with the greatest need. Learn more on how to get involved at the link below.

2025 Rec & Park Community Report Highlights Standout Year

As we begin the new year, we’re pleased to share highlights from 2025 in our annual community report. It was a standout year for San Francisco’s parks, marked by the opening of Sunset Dunes at the former Great Highway; the completion of major renovations at Stern Grove Playground and Esprit Park; and breaking ground at Buchanan Street Mall and Tenderloin Recreation Center.

It was also a milestone year at India Basin Waterfront Park. We broke ground on the third and final phase of the project at India Basin Shoreline Park, while the park at 900 Innes Avenue was honored by World Urban Parks with a Neighborhood Park Award for excellence and innovation. Expanded programming at the park also brought new energy to the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood. Read the full report at the link below.

India Basin Shoreline Park Construction Update

Construction at India Basin Shoreline Park continues, with earthwork and grading underway, along with soil import and installation of drainage infrastructure. Please note there was a minor delay related to clearing the PG&E pit, with anticipated completion now set for late February. Stay up to date at the link below.
