From Bill Murphy---

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, this Saturday is the first Saturday of the month and therefore it's Volunteer Workday. We meet in the main parking lot of the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater (21 John F. Shelley Drive) in John McLaren Park. Start time is 9:30 AM and we work until noon. This month we are again pulling invasive plants, mostly Blackberry from the new trail area on University Hill, just across the road from the parking lot. SF Rec and Park will provide gloves and tools, water and snacks. The snacks are from Arizmendi Bakery and are outstanding. If you have your own heavy gloves, bring them. You'll want every advantage in the battle against the Blackberry. Dress in layers, the forecast is for Mostly Sunny with a high of 72 degrees. Long sleeves and pants are recommended since the Blackberry fight back. Shuttle rides are available from the Glen Park BART Station to the parking lot. A flour and chalk trail to the worksite might be laid, if we have lots of people and break into two groups. SFH3 will provide additional snacks, beverages and BEER. It should be a brilliant day in the park. JOIN IN!!!!

I have sad news to pass along to all of our group.  We have lost Elbert Yee.  Elbert has been one of the hardest workers and greatest supporters of everything related to McLaren Park.  He was one of the only people who held a permit which allowed him to work without supervision to weed invasive plants from McLaren Park.  I’m proud to say that he was the first non-Hasher to earn the Hand Pump Work Crew Patch.  I will keep everyone informed about services or memorials.  Come out to the main parking lot of the Amphitheater just after noon on Saturday and we’ll have a BEER in his honor.
