Thank you to everyone who came out for Outside Lands Music Festival this past weekend! From Hozier to Doja Cat, we're grateful to the 140 artists who brought the music and vibes to Golden Gate Park! We're proud to host this eco-friendly music, food and art festival held in this jewel of San Francisco.

India Basin Shoreline Park Groundbreaking on August 19

Join the partners of the India Basin Waterfront Park project—the Trust for Public Land, San Francisco Foundation, A. Philip Randolph Institute, San Francisco Recreation and Parks, and the Bayview-Hunters Point community—for the groundbreaking on the third and final phase of the project at India Basin Shoreline Park (Hunters Point Boulevard and Hawes Street). It will take place on Tuesday, August 19 from 11 a.m. to noon and will feature remarks, a shovel ceremony and refreshments.

This phase will improve access, expand recreational amenities, and enhance the shoreline habitat at the park, with planned features including a gravel beach, a new boat house with a floating dock, new playgrounds, fitness stations, basketball courts, and more.

Once completed, the park will connect with the adjacent India Basin Waterfront Park at 900 Innes, which opened in October 2024. Together, they will form a 10-acre, continuous bayside park offering miles of trails, new recreation opportunities, direct shoreline access, and increased resilience to sea level rise.

SPARK SF Public Schools Launches Campaign to Boost Student Attendance

SPARK SF Public Schools, in partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), launched a citywide campaign called “Be Here!” to emphasize the importance of strong school attendance and fostering a culture of belonging for student success and public school funding.

Businesses, community-based organizations, government agencies, and local education champions are joining forces to spread one clear message: Be Here! Because school is where students grow, connect, and thrive.

In addition, SPARK will fund a full-time position at SFUSD to provide critical oversight on attendance and belonging best practices, and support SFUSD schools with their individual school-site attendance plans. SPARK will provide funding for a digital dashboard for SFUSD teams and schools with real-time attendance analysis to quickly identify trends with students and families that may need additional support before the challenges become further entrenched.

In the 2024–25 school year alone, SFUSD students lost an estimated 4.4 million hours of learning and SFUSD lost over $60 million in state funding due to student absences. A return to pre-pandemic attendance levels could restore close to 1.5 million hours of learning and $18 million of state funding annually for San Francisco public schools.

The campaign will roll out across multiple channels throughout the fall, with participation from city agencies, local leaders, and partners across every neighborhood.

Coyote Pupping Season in our Parks

As we hit the dog days of summer, it means that we're in the midst of coyote pupping season. While coyotes are generally wary of humans, parent coyotes may become territorial if you or your pet stumbles upon their den.

To foster a safe coexistence between yourself and our natural neighbors, please take the following precautions:

  • Never feed coyotes or any wildlife
  • Keep dogs on leashes in our parks, unless in a designated off-leash dog play area
  • Only admire coyotes from a distance

If you encounter a coyote, slowly back away carrying any small children or pets. Do not run. You may also scare the coyote away by appearing large and making loud noises.

If you encounter a coyote or see someone putting out food for a coyote, report it to Animal Care and Control (ACC) at (415) 554-9400, or by email at a...@sfgov.org.

For more information, visit ACC's coyote page at the link below.
