A very generous donation from a local artist would love to see his gorgeous and colorful ceramic fish be displayed in the park.  I originally thought the roundhouse near McNab Lake (or Tadpole Pond as many remember it) would be an ideal location because it is round like a fishbowl and very close to a lake that has quite a bit of various fish in it.

Daniel Choi thought possibly the cement wall on Shelley Drive just below the Peru Street Porta Potty would work also.  Theoretically we can split the display if needed.  Help McLaren park can assist in the cost of the installation either through RPD or through a private contractor.

If you think you would like to support the cause please send me a letter (official letterhead encouraged) and I'll send it to RPD staff to present at the next art commission meeting.

Thanks everyone and a big thanks to artist Hudson Lanier for his generous donation.

They are beautiful - but the species? How do they relate to the space?

Hi, Chuck – Something at the roundhouse sounds interesting. Although certainly not many of the fish shown are typical of McNab Lake, I do remember that when the Upper Reservoir was drained and its fish fauna moved down to McNab, there definitely were several surprising denizens definitely not on the native McNab Lake species, including many carp (one very large one) and even , to my amazement, a big mouth bass.  And you probably still have the pictures of proud angles hoisting for the camera interesting species caught in the lake for some time thereafter.

I heard somewhere that San Francisco prides itself on diversity.  And who knows what might swim up a nearby Yosemite Creek when/if it is daylighted again per some plans I remember being “floated” a few years ago. Is this an invitation and prediction of a future salmon run!!!

Just some thoughts - Joe
