To Protect, Maintain and Enhance the Unique Beauty and Livability of San Francisco

To Our Devoted Supporters,

San Francisco Beautiful means many things to many people. Some may think of how SFB's founder, Friedel Klussmann, saved the San Francisco Cable Cars in 1947. Others might remember how SFB was instrumental in creating the "No New Billboards" proposition passed by 78% of the electorate. Additionally, many of you supported SFB's worthy but unsuccessful lawsuit seeking to stop AT&T from installing over 700 utility boxes on City sidewalks.

SFB's commitment to its mission and principles have allowed this institution to flourish as one of the oldest nonprofits in the state. SFB has always done right by those who cherish the uniqueness of San Francisco's beauty and livability.

SFB's Neighborhood Beautification Grants continue to make an impact across San Francisco. They have been a continued success since their revival in 2023. Each new sponsored project allows SFB to contribute to the beauty and livability of the City and neighborhood pride.

SFB's Board members participated in the celebration of a project made possible by one of its grants -- the revitalized Fern Dell in Golden Gate Park. The informational walk in the Dell was hosted by grant award recipients Friends of the Tree Fern Dell and Lily Pond. The Fern Dell can be found across from the Conservatory of Flowers. You can help SFB spread fern fever (also known as pteridomania) by donating here.

SFB's Board recently attended another impressive project made possible by a Neighborhood Beautification Grant: the long wall of a collection of individual murals, the "Portola Pollinator," each section detailing a different species that pollinates in our environment. The Portola Pollinator can be found at 655 Dwight Street.

SFB is pleased to announce the start of its 2025-2026 Neighborhood Beautification Grant program. Applications for grant-eligible projects are now live on SFB's website.

What lies ahead for SFB in 2026? The Board is planning an expansion of activities, including stairway tiling, working with City agencies on joint projects, and increased civic advocacy.

SFB looks forward to a new year of exciting projects, steady growth, and new opportunities.

Stay tuned!

Sincerely,

The Board and Employees of SF Beautiful
