Hi Adam -
We made the switch from Pyxis
to Acudose approximately 18 months ago. Initially it was very
difficult. The cabinets did not have several of the features that Nursing
and Pharmacy relied on. Since our go-live things have gotten much
better. McKesson has upgraded their system twice, each time adding
features that we requested. They have redesigned their cabinets to make
them shorter, have added Biometric fingerprint login (only requires the
fingerprint/no username or password), scan on refill, permanent (standard) meds,
made numerous narcstation improvements, and more. There are still a few
things that Pyxis has and Acudose does not (Dispense by Time and My Patients are
two big ones for the Nurses), however, they are catching up quickly. A
year ago I would have recommended staying with Pyxis. Now I have changed
my mind. If we had to do it again, I would vote to switch to Acudose for
the long-term benefits (we have numerous other McKesson products).
You will likely experience a few short-term losses of functionality
but not too many at this point.
