Cancelling meeting tomorrow

Since David and Maria are dealing with home improvement I am cancelling the meeting tomorrow. Try to get as far as you can with the address->lat/long issue. I am thinking we'll deploy something in 2 weeks.

My status - managing to keep up my an hour a day working on the template thing. The project now has jshint static javascript lint and jasmine js unit tests and min coverage limits enforcement

Looking at our Geo problem I found some other issue, I think you discussed it before, but I wasn't involved. 

When you search for meetings in 10 miles of Huntington, Utah, the Meeting Finder returns up to 106 entries, all of them exactly in 6.91 miles from this town of 2,129 residents. The map sends you to a spot in the Manti-La Sal National Forest. When Google Maps cannot parse a UT address, it places it to some mysterious spot in the wilderness. BTW, some of these meetings should be in WA, not Utah  (Alano Club of the Eastside, 12302 NE 8th St, Bellevue, WA 98005)

So, I think every state has a magic coordinate where all mapping errors can be found.

I suggest to make 2 steps:

1. Clear out our DB. If the "magic point" is in a populated area, it creates a lot of confusion and make the APP unusable for some regions

2. Prevent new entries to fell into the "magic points"

Can you give me an extended data dump with the addresses added to the end of the line? I need addresses to identify "magic points" for all 50 states. Please, compress the files, they are getting really big!

This table will allow us to select all suspicious addresses and clear them out. 

For the second phase we will add this table to the DB and will run a query against it to prevent suspicious entries to be added.

I'm assuming that before we do this work, that we're going to do a database backup.  Or, that we have a fairly frequent backup being done automatically?

Second question:  I don't understand the term "clear out".  I'm assuming that you guys mean only these meetings that are in a bogus location.  Instead of clearing them out, should we actually be using the name and the local Utah AA web sites to determine the proper location of the meetings we plan to delete?

One comment:  I'm not sure that every state does have a "magic point".  We can leave that open for debate.  But, I suspect when we ripped the Utah data, it had these bogus locations already in it.  The only thing that I've seen Google do is the following:

1. Take some address (this is a fake example) 138 First Street, Atlanta, GA that doesn't really exist.

2. Google tries VERY hard (and fails) to "guess" at an address.  So I've seen things like it keying on the word "First" and returning the latitude and longitude for "First Baptist Church, 138th Street, Atlanta, GA".   This seems to be the most typical issue with the API.

Good luck with whatever you decide.  Just be careful if we don't have any backups.  We don't want to piss the users off further.  :-)

Most those meetings (if not all) are in wrong state.  We have seen this before. We were able to determine meetings with a zipcode if they were in the wrong state, but these meetings most likely have no zipcode. Can easily see this by looking at the original source files we have for each state. Would really have to go through our files for each state and verify the address manually.

For example, there is no Newark, UT or Denver UT, or Tucson, UT or Phoenix, UT etc. That is what I am seeing when searching for Huntington UT.

I see we just got a review complaining about a meeting in DC that was mapped under Atlanta GA.

A single geo coordinate with dozens of meetings look suspicious (while we have Triangle Alano Club @ 177 High House Rd, Cary, N.C. 27511 with dozens). I need the dump with addresses to find bad entries quickly.
