Dear Colleagues,

The Open Distance Learning would like to invite your faculty and technical assistants to an online training course, Teaching Online Facilitation, on February 15 to March 23, 2013.  We have allotted 20 participants from the BEU and 10 participants from the advocacy centers and special centers.  This has full support from our President,  Dr. Rosario Lapus.

Kindly read the description below.

Introduction
One of the identified gaps in the review of MC’s Open/Distance Learning Program ODLP (formerly the Professional Program) is the need to conduct capacity-building among MC faculty members on the knowledge and skills in handling blended and full online courses. In response to this gap, the ODLP proposes to conduct an online course on teaching and learning online.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the participants will be able to achieve the following:
Describe online learning and understand the different underlying principles of this approach;
Identify the different components and processes in facilitating online learning and explain the different phases in the delivery of an online course including the tasks and roles within each phase;
Demonstrate enabling attitudes to online learning and learn strategies for the delivery of an online course;
Develop facilitation skills and techniques through simulation and create an online delivery plan including student activities in the MC e-learning platform as course project

Duration
The Training on Online Facilitation is designed for six weeks inclusive of two face to face sessions and at least two synchronous webinars. The minimum required number of online hours for a participant is at least two hours a week to more hours, depending on the intensity of online engagement.  The course will officially with a face-to-face session for the orientation and leveling of expectations among the facilitator and participants. The course is estimated to end with a small ceremony for the awarding of certificates for those who will satisfy all the requirements of the course.

Target Participants
The target participants of this training are the faculty members and professional staff of the BEU, advocacy and special centers who are interested and will commit to facilitate online courses under MC’s Open/Distance Learning Program after successfully finishing this course. Ideal online class size is 30 participants.

Delivery Team:  A carefully chosen group of trained facilitators headed by Ms. Sheila Dingcong of OLDP.

Training Fee: P1,800/participant to be shouldered by the ODLP under OVPAA (2012-2013 budget).

Kindly send the names of participants to Dr. Malou Q. Baybay, Director, ODLP.  Tel. no.  4354754 or mba...@mc.edu.ph

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Glenda E. Fortez, Ph.D.
Vice President for Academic Affairs
