On June 6, nearly 50 neighbors attended a district-wide forum at the Cleveland Park Community Center to discuss affordable housing and gentrification in our neighborhood. One of the action items from that meeting was to send a letter to Metro Planning requesting an update to the official planning documents that affect the neighborhoods in our council district. Many of those in attendance were interested in signing the letter.
We are still collecting signatures and will be sending the letter to Planning at the beginning of July. If you would like to be a part of this important request, please contact me and I can bring the letter to you to sign. The text of the letter is copied below.
Thanks.

"On behalf of the residents of Council District 5, we earnestly request that we be given an opportunity to participate in a community planning process to update our ten year old Community Plan and Detailed Neighborhood Design Plans. We appreciate the opportunity to be involved in the NashvilleNext planning process, and recognize the effectiveness of that process for influencing Nashville's next General Plan. However, the residents of District 5 believe that this process has not been adequate for capturing the vision we have for our unique local community. Like much of Nashville, Council District 5 has experienced significant change since the community process for the current plan took place in 2005. We believe a thorough and distinctly local public participatory process involving local stakeholders is necessary to establish a clear vision for what our community wants to achieve going forward. Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to working with you in the future."
