Hello McFatter Family!
Last week, the required Fall 2019 dual enrollment forms were submitted to Broward College. Students planning on taking courses in the SUMMER and FALL are required to submit their schedules to their assigned counselor before the end of May. This information is needed to verify the invoice that is submitted to the school over the summer. Remember that all courses that are started impact both your high school and your college GPA. Choose wisely for the fullest benefit.
The month of May will consist of a lot of testing, with AP, EOC, and Final Exams all taking place. Please be aware of all requirements for courses taken and plan to be in attendance. AP exams require students to be in the room by 7:30 for exams that begin at 8am… Missed exams cannot be made up unless it meets the CollegeBoard criteria for “Make-ups”. It is worth the time to review the AP Bulletin this weekend or next at https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/pdf/ap-student-parent-bulletin-2018-19.pdf to keep up with the “AP Rules”. Check out the test dates attachment too for the dates and times of each scheduled exam.
There is much more information below. I wish you a great week.
Take care,
Lillie Henry

Review Schedule for the AP Environmental Science Exam
Attached, you will find the review schedule for the AP Environmental Science Exam. These review sessions were implemented in early February.
The review sessions are conducted by previous AP Environmental Science Students who have earned a 4 or 5 on the AP Environmental Science Exam in previous years. These students know the material and all the tips and tricks to studying effectively for the AP Environmental Science Exam.
Current AP Environmental Science students will earn extra credit for each review session that they attend in its entirety. Peer Tutors will be taking attendance during each review session and will make note of any student who shows up to simply sign the attendance sheet.
Also, Dr. Stackhouse will be holding AP Refresh review sessions after spring break. Dates and times to be determined.

News from BRACE Advisor:
Seniors - The Broward Graduation Survey is now open. Every senior must complete this survey prior to May 31st. No survey = no cap and gown = not walking at graduation. The survey has been assigned as a task in the student's Naviance account. A student can finish the survey or save it to go back to it later. If the student anticipates any changes (like adding additional scholarships), they can save it for later. If they finish the survey and need to go back, the survey will need be re-opened. If a student needs to have their survey reopened, they should contact Ms. Lynn, to do so.
Juniors - Do you qualify for free or reduced lunch? If so you are entitled to take the SAT and ACT (twice each) for free. Stop by Ms. Lynn's office to get your fee waivers. There is only one more SAT and two more ACT's for this academic year. Make sure that you sign up before the deadlines pass. See attached testing schedule.
Juniors - College Board Opportunity Scholarship Program - Class of 2020 students can prefer tasks that have the possibility of earning them scholarship money. The tasks include: Building a college list, Practicing for the SAT on Khan Academy, Improving your SAT score, Completing a FAFSA, and Applying to college. There are specific time frames for the various tasks and students are chosen at random, but it is another way to earn money for tasks that you should be doing anyway.
Juniors - Want to get a head start on your college applications? The Common Application has released their essay prompts for 2019-2020. See attached document for details.
FAFSA - Pay attention to FAFSA deadlines. Many schools have January dates for their FAFSA deadlines. Keep in the mind the correct website for FAFSA is: www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Scholarships!!!! -
As a way to reach more students, my friend and fellow BRACE Advisor at Northeast High School, has created links to share scholarship information via social media. She has an account on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Feel free to follow her.

All students, especially seniors, should be very familiar with the scholarship page on Naviance. It is listed under the college tab. There are multiple ways to search for scholarships. Each scholarship has its own deadline. I would make a scholarship search part of your weekly routine.
Raise.me & PSAT Scores - PSAT scores will be released next week. Students can earn scholarship money by linking their PSAT scores to Khan Academy through their Naviance account.
RaiseMe - Students (all grade levels) and parents, are you aware of Raise.me? It is a way for students to earn micro-scholarships for things that they are already doing (i.e. - completing a FAFSA, taking AP courses, earning an A). Raise/me has partnerships with many schools across the country. I highly recommend that all students create and update a Raise.me account. https://www.raise.me/
Bright Futures Authorization - We now have 132 of our 140 seniors who have completed their Bright Futures authorization form. For those of you who completed the FFAA without entering your social security number, now is the time to log back in to your account and change your pseudo-social (the number that they assigned to you) to your actual social. You need to do this in order for your money to match with your file at the college level. If you have trouble with this process you can call their toll-free number (888)827-2004.
It's FAFSA Season! - All Broward County families are welcome to attend any of the FAFSA labs and workshops around the county. See attached document for dates and locations. To date we have 84 families who have completed their FAFSA.
SAT & ACT Test schedules - Please see attached flyer for the 2018-2019 SAT and ACT test dates. Pay attention to the registration deadlines.
If you have not already taken the SAT and/or ACT, you need to register asap. Attached is a list of the 2018-2019 test dates. Most colleges and universities have their applications available. All transcripts should be requested through your Naviance Student (formerly known as Family Connection) account. The students will go to: student.naviance.com/wtmtc or log on using your Broward County single sign on. The log on and password are similar to virtual counselor (Student ID # 06....and birth date for password (MM/DD/YYYY).
Traditionally students take the SAT and or ACT for the first time during the spring of their junior year and a second time during the fall of their senior year. Both of these tests are college entrance exams. Schools will accept these tests equally. It is recommended that students take both the SAT and ACT. This way they will be able to determine if they have a strength on one test over the other. Keep in mind that most schools look at the scores that are most favorable to the student. At the time of registration, students are able to send their scores to 4 schools for free. If students wait until after testing to send these scores, they will have to pay a minimum of $12.00 to have their scores sent. It is the student’s responsibility to have their scores sent to the various schools. Schools will only accept official score reports which are sent directly from these testing agencies.
Free and Reduced Lunch - There are many benefits to qualifying for free or reduced lunch, other than the meals themselves. Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch are eligible to receive SAT and ACT fee waivers for both their junior and senior years (1 per test, per year). Additionally, seniors who have taken a test using a fee waiver are able to receive college application fee waivers. If a student were to take advantage of all of the fee waiver offers, they could save over $500. It is well worth the time to complete an application to see if you qualify.
Fee Waivers are
now available in the BRACE office for students who qualify for
free or reduced lunch.
On Campus Events: College visits are open to
juniors and seniors.~ All students must have a college
visit pass to attend.~ The student must sign up through Eventbrite (http://www.eventbrite.com/o/brigitte-lynn-8407916290) to get a college visit pass/ticket. ~ Space is limited ~ Students must have their teacher's
permission to attend. ~ It is between the teacher and the
student whether it is appropriate for the student to miss class time
to attend the college visit ~ Students should check Naviance and
Eventbrite often as visits are constantly
being added.
April 30th - Academic Signing Day - During high school lunch - Seniors will celebrate the final school choice. The seniors are expected to create post card sized cards indicating their names and their final school choice. See attached photo for examples.

In addition to great college and career resources, there is a wonderful scholarship section. It is located at on the student's college page.
