Welcome McFatter Family!
This week was a week filled with a lot of academic growth along with a little fun. Today, we held our annual Freshman Mixer. For this event, ninth graders get to meet one another in an informal and activity-based environment.
Thank you to the parents who agreed to assist with the SAC and SAF committees. We are still in need of a couple of parent volunteers for the SAC committee. Please call Ms. Daniel at 754-321-5735, if you would like to help.
I hope that you have a relaxing and safe three-day weekend.
Take care,
Lillie Henry

We have our first offer of college admission! Congratulations to Gisselle Oval who was offered admission to Valdosta State University. Congratulations Gisselle! Seniors, you can see that colleges are actively offering students admission. It is best to apply early. It is usually a little less competitive, you get a quicker response, and you have a better opportunity for school-based scholarships. This long weekend can be the perfect time to complete your college applications.
Are you interested in the Medical Field? Check out NSU's Do Medical Explorers program. The program includes: presentations and hands on workshops covering topics such as suturing, CPR and vitals, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, Doctor/Patient simulations, etc. There is a $20 fee which is inclusive of the entire academic year. For more details contact: mede...@gmail.com. See attached flyer.
Welcome back seniors! It's time to hit the ground running. If you have not already taken the SAT and/or ACT you need to register asap. Attached is a list of the 2018-2019 test dates. Most colleges and universities have their applications available. Remember, our goal date for you to have all of your applications completed is Sept. 15th. All transcripts should be requested through your Naviance Student (formerly known as Family Connection) account. The students will go to: student.naviance.com/wtmtc. Their log on and password are similar to virtual counselor (Student ID # 06....and birth date for password (MM/DD/YYYY).
As Homecoming season comes around, I would like to make you aware of Becca's Closet (see attached flyer). Becca’s Closet is a national non-profit organization that has been making homecoming, military ball & prom accessible to tens of thousands of U.S. young people since 2003 by donating dresses to deserving high school girls with financial need.
Senior Photos - Seniors, if you have not already done so, you need to contact Weston Photography Studios (954-888-9259 or www.westonphotgraphy.com) to schedule a photo shoot. This is the only way to get your photo in the yearbook. All photos must be taken before Sept. 30th.
Seniors and parents of seniors - Our goal at McFatter is to meet with every senior prior to mid-year senior year to discuss their plans for after high school. Ideally, we would like to have at least one parent attend this meeting. I have met with all but 43 students from the Class of 2019. If you have not already had a post-secondary, please call Ms. Lynn at (754)321-5805 to schedule an appointment. By mid-September, I will begin holding these conferences with the students alone.
SAT & ACT Test schedules - Please see attached flyer for the 2018-2019 SAT and ACT test dates. Pay attention to the registration deadlines. For example, the deadline for the next (October 6th) SAT is Friday, Sept.7th.
Traditionally students take the SAT and or ACT for the first time during the spring of their junior year and a second time during the fall of their senior year. Both of these tests are college entrance exams. Schools will accept these tests equally. It is recommended that students take both the SAT and ACT. This way they will be able to determine if they have a strength on one test over the other. Keep in mind that most schools look at the scores that are most favorable to the student. At the time of registration, students are able to send their scores to 4 schools for free. If students wait until after testing to send these scores, they will have to pay a minimum of $12.00 to have their scores sent. It is the student’s responsibility to have their scores sent to the various schools. Schools will only accept official score reports which are sent directly from these testing agencies.
Free and Reduced Lunch - There are many benefits to qualifying for free or reduced lunch, other than the meals themselves. Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch are eligible to receive SAT and ACT fee waivers for both their junior and senior years (1 per test, per year). Additionally, seniors who have taken a test using a fee waiver are able to receive college application fee waivers. If a student were to take advantage of all of the fee waiver offers, they could save over $500. It is well worth the time to complete an application to see if you qualify.
Fee Waivers are now available in the
BRACE office for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
