Hello
McFatter Family,
I hope this day finds everyone safe and sound from Hurricane Dorian. As he continues up the United States, we are well aware that the storm remains on the minds of many in the McFatter Family. Below is an opportunity to donate to the relief efforts.
Last week the Freshman Mixer took place on Friday, and the students enjoyed getting to know each other and learning new things about pre-existing friends. Thank you to the students and staff who made this event possible.
We have a busy week ahead of us. On Monday at 6pm, the SAC election will take place. See the message below for more detail. On Tuesday evening at 6pm is Parent Back to School Night. Students were sent home with their schedules so that you will know where to go for each period. Back by popular demand, teachers will be available for both the fall and spring schedule. Please plan to be in the gym on the west side of campus at 6pm with the blue schedule.
There is a lot of information below…
I wish you all a great week.
Take care,
Lillie Henry
Magnet Coordinator

Hispanic Heritage Month Art and Essay contest
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis invite all Florida students to participate in the 2019 Hispanic Heritage Month art and essay contests with the theme of “Celebrating Public Service: Hispanic Heritage Month 2019.” Students in grades K-3 have a chance to win a cash prize by submitting their original artwork, and students in grades 4-12 can earn a 4-year Florida Prepaid Scholarship through the essay contest.
As you develop lesson plans for Hispanic Heritage Month, observed September 15-October 15, 2019, please encourage your students to learn about the numerous contributions of Hispanic Americans and either write an essay or create artwork for submission to the contest.
The prizes could transform the lives of a student in your class or school. I hope that you will inspire all of your students to take full advantage of this opportunity to enhance their appreciation for Hispanic American History and prepare financially for their own future education aspirations.
Additionally, students, parents, teachers and principals are invited to nominate full-time educators in elementary, middle and high schools for the Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award.
The deadline for all submissions is 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2019.
To learn more about Florida’s rich history of contributions by Hispanic-Americans and for more information about the art, essay and educator contests, please visit www.FloridaHispanicHeritage.com.

News from Ms. Lynn, BRACE Advisor (multiple attachments):
Please call (754)321-5805 with any questions you may have regarding BRACE News.
I am very happy to announce our first offer of admission. Ethan Siegel was offered admission to the University of North Florida. Congratulations Ethan! Make sure that you stop by the BRACE office and place your pin on the college admissions map.
Seniors - Hopefully you have been thinking about your plans for after high school. If you are planning on attending a four-year university directly after high school here are some things that you need to do:
I am here
to help you with this process.
I was able to meet with many seniors and their families over the summer. Our goal at McFatter is that we meet with every senior prior to graduation to make sure that they have a plan for after high school. I will continue to hold post-secondary conferences, but with college visits, and other school responsibilities, my meeting times will be limited. Most meetings will be held at 8:30 in the morning. Please call me directly (754)321-5805 to schedule a meeting.
Seniors - If you have not already done so, you need to schedule your senior photos with Weston Photography (954)888-9259. See attached flyer for details.
If you need to take/retake the SAT and/or ACT you need to register asap. Attached is a list of the 2019-2020 test dates. Most colleges and universities have their applications available. All transcripts should be requested through your Naviance Student (formerly known as Family Connection) account. For schools that have multiple ways to apply, be sure to list how you applied to the school (i.e. - directly to the institution, common app, coalition app, etc.) The students will go to: student.naviance.com/wtmtc or log on using your Broward County single sign on. The log on and password are similar to virtual counselor (Student ID # 06....and birth date for password (MM/DD/YYYY).
Traditionally students take the SAT and or ACT for the first time during the spring of their junior year and a second time during the fall of their senior year. Both of these tests are college entrance exams. Schools will accept these tests equally. It is recommended that students take both the SAT and ACT. This way they will be able to determine if they have a strength on one test over the other. Keep in mind that most schools look at the scores that are most favorable to the student. At the time of registration, students are able to send their scores to 4 schools for free. If students wait until after testing to send these scores, they will have to pay a minimum of $12.00 to have their scores sent. It is the student’s responsibility to have their scores sent to the various schools. Schools will only accept official score reports which are sent directly from these testing agencies.
SAT & ACT Test schedules - Please see attached flyer
for the 2019-2020 SAT and ACT test dates. Pay attention to
the registration deadlines.
Free and Reduced Lunch - There are many benefits to qualifying for free or reduced lunch, other than the meals themselves. Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch are eligible to receive SAT and ACT fee waivers for both their junior and senior years (1 per test, per year). Additionally, seniors who have taken a test using a fee waiver are able to receive college application fee waivers. If a student were to take advantage of all of the fee waiver offers, they could save over $500. It is well worth the time to complete an application to see if you qualify.
Fee Waivers are now available in the BRACE office for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Scholarships!!!! - All students, especially seniors, should be very familiar with the scholarship page on Naviance. It is listed under the college tab. There are multiple ways to search for scholarships. Each scholarship has its own deadline. I would make a scholarship search part of your weekly routine.
RaiseMe - Students (all grade levels) and parents, are you aware of Raise.me? It is a way for students to earn micro-scholarships for things that they are already doing (i.e - completing a FAFSA, taking AP courses, earning an A). Raise/me has partnerships with many schools across the country. I highly recommend that all students create and update a Raise.me account. https://www.raise.me/
On Campus Events: College visits are open to juniors and seniors.~ All students must have a college visit pass to attend.~ The student must sign up through Eventbrite (http://www.eventbrite.com/o/brigitte-lynn-8407916290) to get a college visit pass/ticket. ~ Space is limited ~ Students must have their teacher's permission to attend. ~ It is between the teacher and the student whether it is appropriate for the student to miss class time to attend the college visit ~ Students should check Naviance and Eventbrite often as visits are constantly being added.

BROWARD COLLEGE DUAL ENROLLMENT UPDATES:
With the upcoming September 20th deadline to submit your dual enrollment forms for Spring 2020 to your counselor, please take time now to get an appointment to make sure to be on time for the process.
For the 2019-2020 school year, ninth through eleventh graders are restricted to ONE COURSE per term and twelfth graders can take TWO COURSES. This is the Broward College Agreement with Broward Schools and is not negotiable.
Please note that we now have a retest policy in place for the PERT, CPT, and Higher-Level Math tests, which is effective on August 1, 2019. Please be sure to share this information as soon as possible with those in your area! Please let me know if you have any questions.
Retest Policy:
There is a retest fee that applies to all retest attempts regardless of the age of the previous scores.
Notes:
REMINDER: Per the DE Recommendation Form signed by the student, parent, school counselor and principal and per the DE Articulation Agreement we have with the School District and each private and charter school, a student must earn a grade of “C” or higher to continue in the DE program.
