Please join Ms. Melissa Henley, our Career Research Instructor, in congratulating McFatter’s LEEO (Linking Education and Employment Outcomes) team, "Florida for Teens”. A special thanks goes out to Ms. Jeanette Johnson and Ms. Cara Daniel for their administrative support and their belief in the team. Also, a special “shout out” to Mr. Anthony Fitchett, McFatter’s Printing & Graphic Arts Instructor, for taking care of the team’s “crazy ideas”. Important Message from Superintendent Robert W. Runcie
**Please see attachment(s) for letter to parents regarding recent media reports of disturbing trends prompted by the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

Message from the BRACE Advisor:
Senior Awards Night - We held our senior awards night last Tuesday, May 16th. It was a huge success. We were able to recognize 132 of our 136 seniors in one way or another (gold cord, silver cord, NHS, scholarship, outstanding performance, seal of Biliteracy, etc.) 96 seniors currently qualify for one of the Bright Futures awards. The scholarship dollars earned have a first year value of $723, 293 and an overall cumulative value of $2,631,832. AMAZING!
As next week is Memorial Day weekend, it is a good time to recognize our students who have chosen a military path. Tyrone Cornelius has enlisted in the Air Force, Brianna McLaughlin will attend the University of Florida on a Naval ROTC scholarship, and Ryan Bigge will attend the Citadel with a DEDUSAR scholarship, after which he will join the Army. Thank you to Ryan, Brianna, and Tyrone. You have made an honorable choice. We would also like to thank all of our families who are in or have been in the military.
Congratulations to Mehak Ali who as of today has a remarkable 1057 service learning hours. Thank you to the Class of 2017 for all that you have done for your communities. Together you has contributed nearly 28,000 hours to help make South Florida better.
Class of 2018 - There is one week left before you become seniors. As such, it is time for you to start thinking about your senior photos. Summer is the perfect time to have your senior photos taken. Attached is a brochure
Senior Reminders - You need to return the signed decorum letter and complete the Broward graduation survey on Family Connection in order to receive your cap and gown at graduation rehearsal. Also you must also be obligation free (textbook or monetary.)
Don't forget to double check your Florida Financial Aid Application (Bright Futures Authorization) to make sure that your social security is on your record and that you listed the correct institution that you will be attending. The money needs to be sent to the correct school. The school matches bright futures money based on social security numbers. If these two items are not correct, you will have a difficult time getting your money. The FFAA website is www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org.
Graduation Decorum Letter - Every senior needs to have a signed (by parent/guardian) decorum letter in order to participate in graduation. Students who do not have a signed decorum letter will not get their cap and gown. See attached letter. Letters are to be dropped off in the high school guidance office.
Broward Graduation Survey - Don't forget to complete the Broward Graduation Survey on Family Connection. To date only 77 of our 136 seniors have completed this survey. (Go to Family Connection (https://connection.naviance.com/wtmtc). Click on the About Me tab. Click on the Broward Graduation Survey link located on the top left side of the page. Answer the questions, being sure to list the school which you will be attending and checking off to have your transcripts sent. Also, include all scholarship awards that you were offered and will be using. Scholarship dollars should be listed was numbers, with out any commas, periods, or dollar signs.) Completion of this survey is required in order for you to receive your cap and gown at graduation rehearsal. Please be careful when completing this survey. So far nearly every student who completed the survey entered information incorrectly or did not include all of their information (especially scholarship awards and final transcript requests). The district will be sending out final transcripts based on the requests through Family Connection. Students should only be requesting a final transcript for one school.
Family Connection - Last school year, the School Board of Broward County purchased a program called Family Connection (it is sometimes referred to as Naviance). This is a wonderful resource that has a plethora of information applicable to all grade levels 6 - 12. There are interest inventories, college search/match, transcript request, scholarship match/databases, etc. We have given assignments to all of our students to get them familiar with the program. I highly encourage all students and families to use this program as much as possible. If the school board does not feel that they are getting the appropriate benefit from the program, it is possible for us to lose it. Attached is a guide to explain how to get started.
FAFSA - FREE Application for Federal Student Aid
Seniors - be sure to check with the schools that you are applying to, as all schools can have different FAFSA priority deadlines. After you have completed your FAFSA you should wait 3 - 5 days for it to process. Then you should go back in to your FAFSA account and check you Student Aid Report (SAR).
*** The district is trying to keep track of how many seniors complete the FAFSA. Please let me know if you have already completed your FAFSA and received your student aid report (SAR). ***
