Health Advantages of 100% fresh air Supply with Available System

Why is Fresh Air so Important?

A constant supply of fresh air is very important. Fresh air provides
us a constant supply of oxygen which is required for our brain and
each and every cell of our body. If we stay in a closed area for a
long period of time, we will end up breathing in the same air over and
over again. The oxygen content of the air will go down continuously as
we breathe out carbon dioxide and other wastes. Breathing this stale
air will not supply our body with enough oxygen to keep our cells
fueled to function properly.
If you are breathing stale air, you might experience some of the
following symptoms:

• Giddiness
• Vomiting
• Headaches
• Fatigue and overtiredness
• Irritability
• uneasiness
• Depression
• Frequent fevers, colds, or lung diseases

Fresh air is full of negative ions. It has a good amount of oxygen and
is free of pollutants and it is refreshing
Here is a list of health benefits of fresh air: Fresh air,

cleansing action of our lungs

is why it's great to take a brisk walk in the open air after we eat

• Alters serotonin levels in our brain which helps to improve our mood
and promote a sense of happiness and well-being
• Helps our body to get rid of accumulated toxins
• Provides enough oxygen for cellular metabolism
• Helps to kill bacteria and viruses in the air .Thanks to its rich
oxygen content as compared to polluted air
• Strengthens our immune system by supplying it with the required
amount of oxygen. White blood cells require more oxygen to kill and
destroy bacteria, viruses and germs. Enough supply of oxygen will
ensure that they function properly


Why is it not possible to provide 100% Fresh Air supply in office
building with Conventional Air conditioning Building?

In an office building to provide Conventional Air-conditioning with
100% fresh air system, we need to install minimum 3 to 4 times higher
capacity cooling system as compared to Air conditioning with minimum
fresh air as recommended by ASHRAE 62.1 2007. This increases the AC
plant capacity & increases our electricity consumption from 100KWH/m2/
year to 400KWH/m2/year and also increases the carbon dioxide emission.
Hence, it is not practically possible to provide Conventional Air-
conditioning with 100% fresh Air Supply system.

Then what is the Alternate Solution?

One of the alternatives is UFAD (Displacement ventilation) with two
stage evaporative cooling. It is the new concept of cooling the space
in hot and dry, and moderate climate. 100% fresh Air is cooled using
two stage evaporative cooling system and the cooled air supplied from
the unit is made to pass through the floor (Under floor air
distribution) and the raised stale air is exhausted naturally through
windows (Ventilators at ceiling level). UFAD’ supply temperature
should not be more than 20 deg C to 22 deg C and this temperature can
be achieved with 2stage Evaporative system. With 22 deg C supply air
temperature we can achieve 25 deg C to 26 deg C temperature in the
occupied zone.

What are the advantages?

The main advantages of having UFAD with two stage evaporative cooling
system is to overcome issues concerning conventional Air-Conditioning
issues are like
• Heath issues. With UFAD with two stage evaporative cooling system we
will have all health benefits of fresh air
• High Electrical peak power demand is 1.6KW/TR & 1.2KW/TR in case of
Air cooled and water cooled system respectively. This can be reduced
to 0.35KW/TR by using UFAD 2stage evaporative cooling system
• High Electrical energy consumption: Conventional Air Conditioners
consumes 80KWH/m2 /year to 100KWH/m2/year of electricity and re-
circulates the same air. This can be reduced to 25KWH/m2/Year with
UFAD 2stage evaporative cooling system and 100% fresh air will be
circulated.
