Needless to say, China's infrastructure building is progressing at the
speed of light. Monday you'll see a new highway down the street,
Tuesday a new theater will open near you and Wednesday your apartment
might be torn down to make place for a larger boulevard. Most
importantly, trees are being planted faster than babies can be born and
the once pathetic patches of green plastic grass has been replaced by
acres of thick soft lawn. Not a bad start, not a bad start at all for a
country that was once discarded as a hopelessly poor country populated
by slanted eyes rice planters.
Anyway obviously China realizes that while the hardware is setting
nicely in place, its software still needs radical changes. The
management of banks, its people's living habits and the deregulation of
industries are examples of areas where China might still be lacking
behind. Although watch out, developed countries, once China reconciles
its luxurious exterior with a meaningful interior, tides will be
turning. Not that we're a threat, nor that communism is the best
system. No I'm not going there, no political talks! Have a good day and
enjoy that general tao.
