as-salamu 'alaykum. Thank you all for the encouragement and prompt response. We will have a staff member attend on Nov 4th during that time to observe. In the interim, if any questions, please let us know.

Also, as requested here are the details for our nearest office. We see members (whether they have health insurance or not) of the MCC community in our Lincolnwood office at the medical center on 6501 N. Lincoln Ave. That's just a block from the intersection of Lincoln and Devon.

Assalamu ALikum MCC Leadership, Our MCC EC meeting with the Khalil Center, Kamran Chaudri, was in July and it has been over three months and our mcc zakat recipients need the wrap around services to help them get back on their feet to a new trajectory in life.  The Khalil Center offered many options at the meeting and I wanted to know where the position with MCC was on this mental wellness issue for the MCC recipients. These individuals need our support now, so if we can start a one hour seminar in November by Khalil Center on “Life Transitions and Ways to Handle the Transitions” may be a good one hour seminar for all the recipients as they wait to receive the zakat check.

If the one hour seminar is not possible on November 4th, then let us plan for a Khalil Center seminar on Dec. 2nd.  However, these individuals need the support now to help them recover from the trauma they are dealing with. I am eager to hear back on how to support the zakat individuals and receive educational seminars and counseling sessions while receiving zakat support with the support of the Khalil Center.

Jazakallah,

Assalamu Alikum and Ramadan Mubarak, may this Ramadan be a blessing for the entire community and help us grow to be more united.

Br. Nasir and Imam Nazim, as the MCC president and the Imam, I have spoken to both of you about my great desire to use the resources of the Khalil Center to help our community.  I first want to start with the MCC location and especially the zakat recipients on each 1st Saturday of the month, when zakat is distributed at MCC.  These individuals need so much more then the zakat check we give them and the wrap around services must include counseling for these individuals.

Ideally, MCC should be the mosque that has a hospital, counseling center, gym, social events room, financial literacy, parenting courses, computer literacy and many other resources that are timely for our community.  Most people see MCC as a place for five daily prayers and that is a excellent resource for the community, but we need to emulate the Prophetic model of the mosque. Over the past few years, MCC has been striving to get more involved with the holistic individual and that is the path we need to continue on, especially so we don’t lose our youth.

The proposal, attached below, that Khalil Center has given, is one option for MCC. The proposal includes first responder training, counseling help at their Lincolnwood location and family building classes throughout the year.  Imam and Ali, as an Islamic leader and licensed clinical worker, I have added you into this e-mail because I know you do numerous hours of work to accommodate individuals at MCC that need marriage, parenting and many other counseling help. Your work and volunteer times have been greatly appreciated and I want to now work on getting Khalil Center to support your efforts.

Please read through the proposal and let me know your thoughts on this Stage One Proposal.  I asked Kamram to send me another proposal in two weeks that is more inclusive of counselors on staff at MCC during zakat distribution on the 1st Saturday of the month, along with the three prong approach this proposal gives. This proposal will need to include the legal issues of having a Khalil Center counselor once a month for at least 5 hours to help the zakat individuals.

I also asked Kamran to develop the ideal model for mental wellness for MCC, so that we can use MCC as a model of bridging spiritual and medicine mental wellness.  IA this is a model that other mosques can use in their location and give the wrap around resources that benefit the whole individual. This next proposal will not be a bandaid of mental wellness, but a complete model.  As far as funding, IA I will work on that portion and develop donors to cover this much needed expense through their zakat donations.

Hence, Br Nasir, Imam Nazim and Ali please give me feedback to make this MCC mental wellness issue a pivotal aspect of our mosque.
Br Hooman and Kamran, I urge you to not think about the finances but think what is best for the zakat individual that comes once a month for a check (Br. Nasir will explain zakat requirements in more detail) and walks away with a person that has heard their pains and gives them support to overcome to this difficult time. I’ll ask you to meet with Rami Nashashibi, the ED of IMAM, that has started a model of counseling for this organization.  Rami is very difficult to connect with but can be reached at ra...@imancentral.org or you can speak with Altaf Kaiseruddin or Alia Bilal, that can add to this mental wellness piece at IMAN.

Jazakallah for all your efforts and may this proposal be the best for our community, as well as a model for other communities.
Warmly,
Dilnaz Waraich
