This email is being sent on behalf of MCC FTS Administration, for our PSG President Mrs Khaula Chaudhry
Assalamualykum Brothers and Sisters,
During the course of our lives, we come across many extraordinary individuals who contribute much to the world around them. With grace and dignity, they manage to balance a tremendous load on a daily basis. One such truly unique person is Khaula Chaudhry. Perseverance and dedication not only define the way she leads her life as a mother of three young children, wife, daughter and sister, but also as an active member of the extended community in which she lives and works.
For years, Khaula has been a member of the Muslim Community Center (MCC) in Chicago, and an integral part of the MCC FTS in Morton Grove. She is the current President of the Parent Support Group (PSG), has participated in the school council, attended board meetings, acted on committees, and the list goes on. In addition to all of her volunteer work, Khaula also works full time as a lab assistant at North Shore University Healthy Systems in Evanston, Illinois.
As a strong and dedicated Muslimah, Khaula maintains a strong Iman and a positive outlook, even during times of
great difficulty. She is going through an excruciating period of life at the moment. Khaula is experiencing deteriorating kidney function and is in need of a kidney transplant. Thus, without hesitation, but with permission from Khaula, we are reaching out to you to help in the quest for a possible donor.
Starting in July, Khaula has been undergoing dialysis treatment. In order to maintain her heavy load of responsibilities at work and with family, she has chosen home-based treatment. The process takes a grueling 5 hours attached to the dialysis machine 4 days a week. Khaula must maintain this exhausting routine without
interruption, until she receives a new kidney. You can imagine the impact this has on her daily life.
The dialysis is physically exhausting and yet, even in her weakened condition, Khaula continues to work, pick and drop her kids to school, attends school functions and takes care of all her regular duties and responsibilities. Not once will you hear Khaula Chaudhry say, I'm not doing well. She always replies, “I'm okay and have a lot to be grateful for...” Deep down, however, we know Khaula really wants to resume her “normal life” in a stronger state of health.
Khaula is registered for a transplant at three hospitals: Northwestern Memorial (Illinois), Froedert (Wisconsin), and Mayo Clinic (Minnesota). On average, it takes 3-5 years to find a match, particularly given Khaula’s blood type. However, donation from a live donor will make the return to a “normal life” an immediate reality. Donating a kidney has become much easier in recent years. You can visitwww.webmd.com to learn more. In the meantime, below is a short list of things a potential donor should know:
•The donor must have blood type B (+ or -) or O.
• Donors typically stay 2 days in the hospital and resume normal activities within 2-3 weeks.
• You can lead a fully functional life with just one kidney.
• The procedure at Northwestern, and many other hospitals is now being done laproscopically.
• The hospital covers all costs of preliminary testing, surgery, and recovery at the hospital.
You may also donate anonymously by contacting:
• or any of the other two hospitals mentioned above and providing the recipient name, Khaula Chaudhry.
