Join MCAS and Project Phoenix this Summer and Fall to help researchers at UCLA and the Natural History Museum of LA protect West Coast Birds!

Project Phoenix is a community science project that leverages eBird and citizen science data to understand how wildfire smoke and climate change are affecting bids on the West Coast. This Summer and Fall, Morro Coast Audubon is partnering with Project Phoenix to collect data on West Coast birds for researchers at UCLA and the Natural History Museum of LA.

By observing birds for just 10 minutes a week and submitting your data through eBird, you can help us collect critical data to protect birds from wildfire smoke and urban air pollution. No prior birding experience is needed to participate!

Students from the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program at Paso Robles High School (PRHS) this fall will be working with Morro Coast Audubon Program Director Torrey Gage-Tomlinson in collecting data for Project Phoenix!

Torrey, MCAS volunteers, Cal Poly Honors Program students, and the AVID team at PRHS will all be working hard at submitting data for Project Phoenix and learning in the field about how ecosystems are affected by wildfires in California. If you're interested in being a part of this collaborative effort, send Torrey an email at program...@morrocoastaudubon.org.

The support and generosity of our donors and members allow us to create free environmental education opportunities for elementary, middle, high school, and college-aged youth, and increase our role as environmental advocates on the Central Coast. Please consider joining or contributing to MCAS to help us build a brighter tomorrow on the Central Coast.
