Announcing: Healthy Estuaries Grant Program

MassBays is offering grants of $8000 to $35,000 for 18-month projects (April 2016 to September 2017) focused on the 47 embayments delineated in Massachusetts Bay and Cape Cod Bay that advance the goals of our comprehensive management plan and build upon past efforts.

Eligible applicants for the new program include Massachusetts municipalities, 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, regional planning agencies, and nonprofit research and education institutions of higher learning based in Massachusetts. All proponents must offer at least 25% non-federal cash or in-kind match.

Pre-proposals are due December 1, 2015; invited full proposals will be due by January 29, 2016. For more information, visit the MassBays Grants page. The detailed Request for Responses is available via COMMBUYS (solicitation ENV 16 CZM 06).

The Healthy Estuaries Grant Program replaces MassBays' Research and Planning Grant Program, which directed more than $450,000 to 26 projects around the region. In 2012, the Saugus River Watershed Council assessed smelt spawning habitat in the Saugus River and a tributary. Their report highlights opportunities for expanding and enhancing spawning areas. Similar projects around the MassBays region will increase our understanding of local conditions and trends and ability to encourage environmental improvements. Map courtesy of Joan LeBlanc
