Take action

Right now in Southern California, a massive natural gas leak near Porter Ranch, Los Angeles has been ongoing for three months.

How massive? The Center for American Progress estimates that this leak has 5 times the climate impact as burning all of the oil spilled by BP in the Gulf of Mexico.

Take action! Tell the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate all methane leaks from the oil and gas industry!

This giant leak is already harming the health of people living nearby and has forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes.

The situation in California is dire and demonstrates the need for the government to regulate methane emissions from all oil and natural gas facilities. The massive gas leak was caused by the sheer negligence of Southern California Gas Company. The company says there is no easy solution, and it cannot stop the leak for several more months.  This disaster spotlights the need for increased federal regulation.

We can’t wait any longer to take action. Tell the EPA now is the time to regulate all methane leaks from the oil and gas industry!

Last fall, 850,000 people supported the EPA’s proposed rules to regulate methane emissions from new oil and gas facilities. Those rules are an important step forward but leave 90% of the industry unregulated, since most leaks originate from existing facilities (like the one leaking now in California).

Two out of three Americans already support the need for a strong methane standard. They know our environment can’t afford to wait – and neither can our health.

Now it is time for the EPA to listen to the American people and regulate existing oil and gas facilities. We can’t afford more leaks like the ongoing disaster in California.

Take action with Green Americans nationwide for strong regulation of all oil and natural gas facilities.

take action
