Dear Eric,

The Delaware River Basin Commission received 69,000 comments on a moratorium on fracking a few years ago. How do I know that? Because they mention it all the time. Numbers matter to the DRBC.

In 2016, we started hearing rumblings that the moratorium could be lifted. The public said no. The Commissioners heard your demands for a permanent ban on fracking in the Basin and, by September, announced plans to institute a ban throughout the watershed.

It wasn't all good news, though. The Commissioners also announced that they planned to consider regulations that would allow fracking waste to be imported and processed in the basin and water to be extracted for fracking up someone else's community.

And so the pressure continues! We want a full fracking ban in the Basin that includes waste processing and water extraction.

I'd ask you to sign my new petition, only the DRBC won't accept petitions during the comment period. And if they receive canned letters with identical text, they'll lump them all together and count them as one comment.

We want to make it easy for you to participate so we can generate the big number of comments that will get the DRBC's attention, so we've created a form you can personalize with an introductory paragraph. Then, you can select three talking points to include. Finally, you can add your own comment, if you like. We'll format your responses as letters we'll submit to the DRBC on your behalf. To fill out our form, visit bit.ly/DRBCcomments

If you prefer submitting your comments directly to the DRBC, their form can be found at http://dockets.drbc.commentinput.com/?id=PGChb. Remember, the DRBC's concern is water, so be sure to connect your concerns with impacts to water.

If you can attend the hearing in the Lehigh Valley in PA on February 22 or participate in a hearing they're doing by phone on March 6th, be sure to register right away on the DRBC's website. You'll find the individual links to register for the upcoming hearing dates at http://www.state.nj.us/drbc/meetings/proposed/notice_hydraulic-fracturing.html.

We've never been closer to a permanent ban on fracking! Let's make it a full ban!

Appreciatively,
Karen
