I did download the program, but couldn't make it work. I wrote to support who told me to try a few things .... still no joy. They said I have to get a new video card for my computer. Not sure why, as the computer is only a few months old. (I did update the drivers as instructed)

I have it, but I find it quite complicate to use to get good results. It happens with most AKVIS products: very promising, but too complicated. And the support is almost non existing, even if they are very nice people.

All I did was load the picture and then click on the arrow button and the program did the work. You also have adjustments to adjust to how you want the outcome to be. I was thinking of writing the author and ask him if he would accept less than what he wants for the program. It is high to me. I would rather invest in CS4 with the money but the program is great. Give it a try and let us know what you think of it.

I had no problem using the program on my son's computer of which is where I was when I downloaded it. His computer is at least 5 yrs old. Mine is newer but haven't downloaded it on that one yet. I am also using the standalone for Windows.

A workaround (kinda) that I use... Over time I've come up with a few setting combinations (saved as custom presets) that usually render results I like. I've recorded a Photoshop action to apply them automatically, e.g.,

Yes, very. I remember creating a preset too but of course it doean't work with every pics all that time. Also AKVIS should have supplied a bunch of presets with that. I think it came with one IIRC which is the default settings and I don't know if this is still the case.

Maybe I can help you sometime next year but it's best not to discuss that here in the forum. For the meantime you may want to check this out. It hasn't been updated since 2004 and I have no experience with it but it seems to be your best way since you are familiar with Delphi.

I have all of them plus Snap Art which has a pencil sketch effect; and I have created numerous custom "pencil sketch" presets for the Impressionist plugin (AFAIK still available at Trimoon's new site).

That's not to say one could not create a pleasing sketch look using some combination of the above, but I respectfully disagree with "...More work but can get the same effect." As noted previously Topaz Simplify does a good job with edge effects, but not "pencil sketches."

The Fujifilm X100VI is the sixth iteration of Fujifilm's classically-styled large sensor compact. A 40MP X-Trans sensor, in-body stabilization and 6.2K video are the major updates, but do they make the camera better?

AKVIS Sketch 14 is a photo to sketch Photoshop plug-in that converts your photos into pencil sketches, watercolor paintings, charcoal art, and pastel drawings. You can create realistic color or black and white renditions that imitate the technique of graphite, color pencils, charcoal, or watercolor. Add effects to your picture background and once the picture is converted into a sketch, you can further personalize the work of art by adding an inscription (signature). This new version of AKVIS Sketch introduces the new Timeline feature which creates stepwise, sequential shots.

AKVIS Sketch 14 is from AKVIS, a company based in Russia that specializes in graphic programs. Apart from Sketch, AKVIS also creates other Photoshop plug-ins like ArtWork, Refocus, Retoucher, Chameleon, MultiBrush, Enhancer, Decorator 3, Coloriage, etc.

We have already reviewed the AKVIS Sketch plug-in for Photoshop earlier, and so much has changed since that earlier version. Follow these steps or just read along to do a quick walkthrough of AKVIS Sketch 14:

This entire kit contains 5 different styles of jigsaw pieces: typical jigsaws, arrows, hearts, ovals, and rounded squares. Each jigsaw shape is available in threecounts: small, medium, and large. We made these available in two slide sizes for both standard (4:3) and widescreen (16:9) resolutions.

Hardly a week goes buy without someone writing in for a quick, easy way of converting digital photos or Photoshop images into art. Most frequently they ask about pencil or pen and ink sketches. We've spent hours writing tutorials and describing the hundreds of processes available in Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Photoshop Elements in order to accomplish those goals. This year however, two companies took on the challenge to create a plug-in that would accomplish wonderful natural media conversions of photos with a click or two. BEST IMAGE EDITING SOFTWARE OF 2006When time came to decide who would sit on the coveted DTG BEST roster for 2006, we came up with a stone-sober draw. We could not choose between Akvis Sketch and Alien Skin Snap Art. Both plug-ins are superb -- both accomplish a host of variations and effects, and both are rich with user-friendly interfaces.

Akvis conjured a revolutionary algorithm that allows you to convert a photo into a pencil sketch in a few mouse clicks. The batch mode conversion (Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro) allows you to automatically convert a series of images, thus even creating comics from videos!

You can make any photo look like B&W or color drawing, imitate the technique of graphite or color pencil, charcoal or watercolor painting -- and here's the good news: Sketch runs on Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/NT and on Macintosh Mac OS X 10.4, PowerPC G3 and above

Sketch is also FAST. We have to say, it tops Snap Art by a wide margin. Once you set up the parameters, the sample image is shown almost immediately. With Snap Art it takes as much as a minute to render the effect -- the ONLY down side. And, in contrast to the similar standard filters built-in to Photoshop or PSP that offer an approximate sketch -- AKVIS Sketch provides a convincing result that comes very close to hand-drawn works of a human artist. As shown in our illustration above.

For a free trial, AKVIS offers 10 days of fully functional use -- it's compatible with Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, Corel Painter, Corel Photo-Paint, and Paint Shop Pro, ACD FotoCanvas, and Ulead PhotoImpact. AKVIS Sketch sells for $72 USD, downloadble from akvis.com

Add Snap Art to your arsenal and you'll never want for an artistic effect -- ever again. We've bragged about Alien Skin products many, many times -- since the dawn of Photoshop! It works equally well for both Windows and Mac users!

This an all new plug-in for Adobe Photoshop and other image editors creates convincing, one-click natural media with no laborious hand editing. Artists, photographers, and designers can now give a hand-crafted look to any digital image.

Snap Art introduces several effects never seen before in a plug-in -- most notably it can recreate an image with a comics look, complete with shading and half-toning. Popular painting techniques are quick and easy in Snap Art. Digital artists can render a still life with pointillism as a Neo-impressionist might. Craft a rough and rocky landscape in dry brushed watercolor or thickly textured impasto. In addition, Snap Art emulates a number of traditional drawing effects such as colored pencils, charcoal for softer shading, and hard, soft and oil pastels.
