Hello all,

I'm sure you are aware of the Inter IIT Sports Meet. The only official platform (barring the newly introduced cultural meet) where different IITs come together and compete for supremacy, bragging rights and so much more. The 51st Inter IIT Sports Meet was held in IIT Kanpur from 12th to 19th December 2016.

Historically, we haven't been too strong in the Overall Championship but this year our athletes had different plans. They worked extremely hard and brought back laurels for the Institute. The results are for all of us to see.

IIT Delhi was the first runners up in the Overall General Championship. We were also the first runners up in the Men's General Championship and second runners up in the Women's General Championship. A feat that has eluded us for years.

We believe that the contingent wins altogether and all of them returned as heroes. We would still highlight some performances that were able to shine bright in Kanpur.

Dileep Pudi became the fastest man ever in Inter-IIT breaking 3 records - 100m, 200m and 400m.
To nobody's surprise, Dileep Pudi was hailed as the best Athlete of the tournament. Dileep Pudi's 10.73s record for 100m makes him the only IITian in the sub 11s domain. To put things in perspective, 10.3s is the national record.
Rahul Jhajharia brought another set of 3 golds in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m races as IIT Delhi completely decimated other IITs in the track events, ultimately bringing home the Athletics General Championship.

Our swimming teams had given us the head start in October itself. Bhakti Agarwal lead charge for the swimming (women) team, leading them to overall second while securing the best swimmer award for herself.
Our teams again managed the top spot in Hockey as well as Volleyball women. Rutha Shenoy was awarded as the best player among the Volleyball women.
The Hockey team defeated IIT Kanpur 2-0 in the final with scintillating displays from captain Lalit and veterans Jai Prakash and Ujjval.
Amit Kothari (Badminton) and Kumar Sahaj (Cricket) also delivered exceptional performances to garner the best player awards in their respective sports to strengthen IIT Delhi's mark at the meet.

We believe that this performance will instil a culture of hard work and achievement and turn IIT Delhi into a force to be reckoned with.
This performance is a stepping stone and a realisation of the capacity of the IIT Delhi contingent and we believe that the time has arrived to set winning the Overall General Championship as a realistic target. And we hope that next year those targets would be met.

Best Wishes
