Columbian Exchange Feast

To mark our understanding of the Columbian Exchange, we hosted (for
the fourth year) a Columbian Exchange Feast. Students were randomly
sorted into two groups - New World and Old World. And they had to
research the foods available/consumed in their hemisphere in 1491
(prior to contact), then build a menu based on that research. I know,
but it's easier than it sounds. Then, the day prior to the
Thanksgiving holiday, we host a feast to commemorate the process of
exchange. Honestly, the students really get into planning and
preparing and it is fun. I promise. And directly curriculum related.
This year, most of their exchanging ideas and planning happened on
edmodo.
