Saturday Dec 10: Linear Algebra, Cauchy-Schwarz, and Himmelis

This Saturday we have some more fun talks! The advanced session will be led by Chris on Linear Algebra and Cauchy-Schwarz, and the recreational by Harini on Himmelis. Note that the location is in the story room this week!

Advanced Series

Title: Linear Algebra and Cauchy-Schwarz

Speaker: Christopher Zhang

Time & Date: 2 pm - 3 pm, Saturday December 10

Location: Princeton Public Library, Story Room (third floor)

Abstract:

I will introduce fields, vector spaces, and inner product spaces for the purpose of proving the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality on inner products. The treatment will be quite rigorous with intuitive examples to aid comprehension.

Recreational Series

Title: Himmeli Construction

Leader: Harini Subrahmanyam Fredrickson

Time & Date: 3:14 pm - 4 pm, Saturday December 10

Location: Princeton Public Library, Story Room (third floor)

Description: Come build a himmeli, a geometric sculpture from Finland made of straw. In this session, you will learn to create a stunning stellated icosahedron to decorate your home for the holidays!  All materials will be provided.
