Chapter 8 of Lean For Dummies covers the topic of 5S (pages 152-154). This basic tool ends up being a foundational element of all Ops Ex activities.
Here is your instructional task:
· Pick a small-scoped work area you are involved in. For example, you could pick your computer desktop, or your Microsoft Outlook email inbox, or your My Tasks within MasterControl, or a meeting room your department uses, or even your physical desktop.
· Using your smart phone (or a screenshot if you have selected a computer environment) to capture a “before” picture of what your selected work area looks like.
· Following the steps on pages 152-154, 5S your selected work area.
· Take another picture (or screenshot) of your selected work area showing what it looks like “after” your completed 5S.
To complete this exercise, reply to this posting with attachments of the “before” and “after” pictures of your selected work area.
To create and send your response, just select this note and click on the Reply button, then after typing your response (and attaching your files, if you choose that route), click Send.
Thanks!
I picked my computer desktop. Before it just had icons scattered about. I used the 5S to combine the icons into similar categories and "scrub" the desktop of icons I no longer needed.
