Brethren,
I’ve spoken to many of you already about the ward Proposition 8 activities and I wanted to send out an email too, to reach those I may have missed. The First Presidency of the Church as well as our Stake Presidency has asked that we all do what is within our means and schedules to support Proposition 8. This is a proposed amendment to the California state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman. The church (and each of us) has an important responsibility to be active on moral issues such as this.
Our ward has divided the work into 2 groups representing both zip codes within our ward boundaries. Sister Loretta Collins is coordinating the Redondo Beach group, and Sister Karen Westover the Manhattan Beach group. Both groups are meeting this Saturday at the coordinators’ houses from 9am to noon to call registered voters in their areas and record their intents. They’ve both encouraged people to bring cell phones, headsets, etc. and make a mini phone bank (instruction and a “script” is provided). I invite you to participate at either gathering. Regardless of how you are received by voters, you can’t beat the camaraderie with fellow ward members! If you are unable to attend this Saturday, please consider coming on the following Saturday. Some ward members have taken voter lists home and made weekday evening calls, which is great too!
I greatly appreciate all the support that our quorum has already given to this effort. You guys are awesome! Now in the scant 50+ days till the November vote, let’s remember: We all have work – let no one shirk… Put your shoulders to the phone! J
Thanks for your help,
Robert
