Passenger Seat

Anybody still out there?  I have an issue that I'm wrestling with and I need some knowledgeable guidance.  This problem is with my 1982 300SD, not my SEC, but I assume that the bottom portion of the seats in the cars are basically the same.  The front passenger seat in the car will not go forward or back.  The seat height, back rest angle, etc. all work fine, but I can't move it forward or backward.  I can hear the motor running, but nothing happens.   I don't have a manual, but I assume that there is a fixed rack on one side of the seat and a pinion on the motor that engages with it - right?  Is the rack mounted to the seat bottom - or - is it mounted to the car floor with the motor fixed to the seat?

Anyway, if anyone out there has ever removed one of these and has some knowledge about them, I would appreciate some guidance.  Thanks..........Neal Dion
