Men's Huddle tomorrow, Saturday May 16
It's a mini-conference at MBC Tysons, with
- Breakfast at 8 am
- Networking time
- Great speakers!
- Finish at 12:30 pm
The Keynote Speaker is Mark Whitacre
- Subject of the movie The Informant
- Matt Damon played the role
- Formerly a high-level executive with ADM
- He worked with the FBI to bring down a multi-billion dollar, international price-fixing scheme.
- He wore a recording device “a wire” for 3 years at work every day as the FBI built their case.
- His separate crimes led to 8 years prison time, and his conversion there!
- Watch him tell his story.
- Operation Timothy (the original of Living Grounded) was key in his jail conversion
From
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Whitacre#Personal_life- Whitacre became a Christian during his incarceration,
- and since his prison release during December 2006,
- he has been often interviewed by the Christian community-including the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN)-
- about redemption, second chances, and the importance of his faith.
- Forbes reported that Whitacre was guest speaker at the Quantico FBI Academy during 2011 about second chances,
- and he was keynote speaker for the 40th Annual NAPSA (Pre Trial Services and U.S. Federal Probation) Conference in 2012 along with Robert F Kennedy, Jr.
Men - - you don’t want to miss this.
- Learn how to have Faith in the Workplace!
- If you haven't registered, just show up!
From World Magazine, September 26, 2009
- In 1983, at age 25, Mark Whitacre earned a Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from Cornell University.
- At age 32 he became president of the fastest-growing division within Archer Daniels Midland,
- one of the largest conglomerates in America.
- At age 40 he entered prison and became a Christian there.
- At age 49, in December 2006, he left prison.
- Whitacre is best known publicly for his whistleblower role in the 1990s ADM price-fixing case,
- which ended with a $100 million fine for the company and prison for some top officials.
- ADM's 2005 annual report also lists a $400 million payment to settle a class action suit.
- But Whitacre, while secretly taping price-fixing discussions, was also stealing $9 million from ADM.
- His saga of corruption and mania received new attention
- as the movie The Informant!, a movie starring Matt Damon as Mark Whitacre, hit theaters in 2009.
- The film is a dark comedy that does not deal with Whitacre's conversion to Christ-
- and that's a remarkable story of how hard times created receptivity to God's good news.
- Whitacre will share that had he avoided prison or received only the six-month sentence that could have been his at one point,
- he would have remained merely a nominal churchgoer who worshipped financial success."
- God used men from Christian Business Men's Connection to help Whitacre through his prison time.
- They mentored him using Operation Timothy (the source MBC's Living Grounded!).
- His jail time turned out to be the most productive and rewarding years of his life.
- He brought dozens of men to Christ.
- Out of jail for 9 years now, he has a new job -- and he's still on fire for Christ.
- Come and bring others to hear him tell his story.
- It is an amazing, emotional and extraordinary example of Christian Redemption.
- Don't miss it!
