Yesterday (IST) / Today (UST), I turned 32: It was a time of joy, despite the deeply felt fear of getting older.
Amidst the merriment, there came a shocking bad news: one of my old students, Arun M.J., passed away, succumbing to a chronic heart ailment.
Well, every other day, many take birth and many die: and, what's so great about it! You will die and I too will die, sooner or later!
In spite of such rationalizations, Arun's death pained me deeply: a few days before I was about to leave for the US from India during 2007, Arun, along with Soumya, another student, sang for me the following Hindi song:
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (Devanagari: कभी अलविदा न कहना, English: Never Say Good Bye)
The full song can be listened (in a movie setting) at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNS2HgOWSwE
Who thought it was not me but Arun himself who would say good by first!
Arun, the gifted singer of heart-melting good bye songs, you are always in my deep thoughts and prayers! Now onwards, may you sing songs of good tidings for the angels of heaven!
And, for us, friends, take no one for granted: we never know what tomorrow will hold!
With lots of love!
