Subject: Question about VARS Annotation Interface
Date: September 18, 2017 at 8:36:55 AM PDT

Hello,

I have a question about the VARS annotation interface: is it possible to synchronize and display positionning data with the video. I mean, for instance, import a text file containing timecoded lat/long and depth data to be able to know the exact position at each moment of the video.

Many thanks.
Best wishes,

Helka

Hi Helka,

Yes. What you should do is first, annotate the video. Then there’s a script included in VARS called `merge_csv`. It accepts a CSV file with a header row that defines a few columns: salinity, temperature, pressure, latitude, longitude, oxygen. Extra columns are OK, they will be ignored. Missing columns are OK too. The column order is not important either. If you just run `merge_csv` without arguments it will print out some helpful documentation. Note that it’s a bash script (i.e. runs on Linux and Mac). If you need a version to run on Windows, let me know and I’ll write one up for you.

Cheers
