Next Common Core Meeting- May 13 at Gault Elementary School

Dear teachers,

I can't believe it is already May!  This spring is speeding by, and it will be summer before you know it! 

I just wanted to remind you that the next meeting of the Common Core Math Series is Wednesday, May 13 at 6:30 PM.  We will meet at Gault Elementary School in Raven Graham's classroom.  The topic is thematic problem solving.  If you have developed a set of math problems for a specific theme, please feel free to bring them along and share.

Registration for the Summer Institute is now available on our website.  The topic will be Creating Wonder in the Classroom, and we will continue to focus on Common Core Math Strategies.  Please see the website for more details.  http://mbamp.ucsc.edu/

Dear Teachers,

This summer we are working to  build the capacity of the teachers to know math instruction and their students well.  

Students must be provided with a mathematical education that allows them to make sense of the world quantitatively and to appreciate their own power to reason. This includes making sense of mathematics through active engagement in problem solving and grappling with increasingly challenging tasks in an interactive way, where challenging and critiquing the thinking of others is safe and valued.  

When teachers and students make sense of math together all text books can become resources to practice and develop math skills.
