Love, love, love this article.  I want to have it to discuss at a staff meeting and with C&D folks.  Maybe we could add Mindset to a summer book group?   I do think we need to look at the ways timed test and flash cards are being used.  I wonder if those third graders would score more proficient if they were given unlimited time?  I think there is a research study in there somewhere.   I am interested in the math course.  Can you link me up with the info?  Thanks,

It's a different course than the ones listed on the MBAMP website. This one just started so I had to jump in a little late, which isn't a big deal when you're doing an online course. It's about learning to think mathematically. It's really for the adult mathematician who has completed high school math and is possibly thinking about a career in mathematics. I'm curious for myself for personal reasons, but I'm also hoping to learn a way of thinking about math that I can bring back to my students. I feel like the Common Core is shifting away from procedural math to this type of innovative thinking, and I'm curious to see what I've been missing from my own educational experience.

I haven't been able to find that link again either to the How To Learn Math course by Jo Boaler. I'm wondering if it's because it doesn't start until April or if they decided to not offer it after all. I'll keep checking on it.

Carol Dweck's team developed a software program for kids - it's like an online class in how the brain works and how you learn. When I was in grad school I wrote to Carol to get info for an article I was writing on her and she gave me a login for the program. It's interactive with reflective journal writing components. Took my son about a week to work through it. Cool program.
